What are the symptoms?

Symptom is something that anyone can notice. They are conditions that only the affected individuals can feel and understand, such as redness in the eyes, earache, or ringing in the ears.

Varicose veins typically do not manifest with pain. However, they can be observed as swollen, bulging, or twisted veins. Some people even liken varicose veins to cables. The symptoms include:

  • Veins turn blue or dark purple.
  • Some patients experience pain in the legs, heaviness in the feet, especially in the evenings or after exercise.
  • If there is a minor injury in the varicose area, bleeding may last longer than usual.
  • Swollen ankles.
  • Often, there is a change in skin color to a brownish or bluish hue in the varicose area.
  • Venous eczema, characterized by red, dry, and itchy skin in the varicose area.
  • Some patients may experience cramps in the legs with sudden movements (e.g., standing up suddenly).
  • Restless leg syndrome is common among patients with varicose veins.
  • Irregular, white spots may appear on the ankles.
  • Varicose veins can occur in different parts of the body, such as the legs (the most common area), rectum, pelvis, vaginal area, uterus, and esophagus.
